Bronze Ballerina with broken foot
This project was a five foot, two inch, outdoor, dancing
ballerina that was was snapped off at the foot while being removed from an
anchored position.

The above pictures show the typical thickness of a bronze casting, which is
about 3/16th of an inch thick. You can
see an existing bar that extended from below the heel, up to the ankle, near the
area of breakage. Below you can
see the entire sculpture as it was being unpacked.

I determined that the area of the break needed to
be reinforced internally so I removed the existing
bar and inserted a stainless steel 1 1/2 inch rod that
extended about 24 inches up into the leg. I secured
the rod with gypsum-based cement. The picture to
the right shows the repair nearing completion after
being welded and chased.

The picture to the right and below show the
the completed project.
