Preserving Metal Objects Page

Before and after pictures of Japanese officer's presentation sword, circa 1942.

Sword was not damaged, but had aged with a lot of tarnishing.  All of the metal parts of handle
were lightly buffed, cleaned and lacquered.  Blade was lightly polished to remove rust pits and
buffed to brighten and remove surface dirt.  Grip (tortoise shell over wood) was cleaned, waxed
and wire wrapping in grooves was replaced.
